1. идти, ходить, гулять и т.п. рука об руку (с кем). Also: ОБ РУКУ; РУКА В РУКУ obs; РУКА С РУКОЙ obs (to walk with s.o.) with interlocking arms or holding hands:

- arm in arm;

- hand in hand.

     ♦ Он поднялся со скамеечки, и мы втроём, рука об руку, пошли вдоль улицы Первого мая (Стругацкие 3). He got up from the bench and the three of us went down First of May Street arm in arm (3a).

     ♦ Товарищ Голосов - молодой человек, и стоит ли говорить о том, что в его годы не зазорно показаться на улице рука об руку с девушкой? (Федин 1). Comrade Golosov was a young man, and is it worth mentioning that at his age there was nothing to be ashamed of in appearing on the street hand in hand with a girl? (1a).

2. жить, работать (с кем) и т.п. Also: РУКА В РУКУ obs; РУКА С РУКОЙ obs (to live, work etc) together, as associates, as comrades:

- hand in hand;

- shoulder to shoulder;

- [in limited contexts] hand in (and) glove.

     ♦ Его [Гладышева] разговоры насчёт замечательного гибрида невесты ещё терпели и соглашались даже на то, чтобы вдвоём, рука об руку, нести сквозь жизнь бремя научного подвига, надеясь, впрочем, что дурь эта у Гладышева со временем пройдет сама по себе (Войнович 2). The girls would put up with his [Gladishev's] discourses on his remarkable hybrid and would even agree to work hand in hand with him and share the burden of his scientific crusade, meanwhile hoping that given time this foolishness would pass from Gladishev by itself (2a).

     ♦ "Рука с рукой мы пойдём в бой против тех, кто порабощал трудящихся в течение целых столетий!"(Шолохов 3). "Shoulder to shoulder we will go into action against those who have been enslaving the working people for centuries!" (3a).

3. идти рука об руку с чем (to be) connected, closely related (to sth.):

- (go) hand in hand (with sth.).

     ♦ В его творчестве теория шла рука об руку с практикой... (Лившиц 1). In his creative work theory went hand in hand with practice (1a).
